One Number vs. a Range
A tube band carries a single printed rating, measured at a typical working stretch. A loop band carries a range, because its makers publish the tension from a light stretch to a hard one. That makes tubes easier to reason about and loops more honest about what actually happens in a rep. Anchoring Is Where They Part Ways
A loop band is its own attachment: loop-knot it around a pull-up bar, a squat rack upright, or a bed frame leg and you have an instant anchor point anywhere in the house. Tube bands anchor through a door anchor or a fixed attachment, which works well once it is set up and is most at home in one spot. Handles Are a Real Advantage
Pressing and curling with a bare loop means latex wrapped across your palm, and at higher tensions that gets distracting. Tube kits ship with padded handles and ankle straps that clip on and off, so the same five tubes become a press, a row, a curl and a kickback. For upper body accessory work, tubes simply feel better, and consistency beats theory.
How They Are Made Matters Later
Most quality loop bands are built from dozens of thin latex sheets bonded in layers, so everyday nicks stay on the surface instead of running through the band, and they tend to age gracefully. Are loop bands or tube bands better for building muscle?
Either builds muscle if it lets you take hard sets close to failure and keep adding load over time. The practical difference is ceiling and attachment: loop bands stack past 200 lbs and wrap around bars and posts, so they keep up with strong lower body lifts. Tube bands top out around 50 lbs each, which is plenty for pressing, rows and curls but runs out on squats and hinges. Most people who train seriously with bands end up using loop bands exclusively, since they cover the handle movements too once you knot a handle on.
Why do tube bands have one number and loop bands a range?

Can you stack tube bands like loop bands?
Yes, if your handles have clips. Most tube kits ship carabiner-style handles exactly so you can clip two or three tubes into the same pair, and the tensions add together just like stacked loops. The limit arrives sooner though: three 30 lb tubes give you 90 lbs, while three mid-range loops can put you past 200 lbs. Can I mix loop and tube bands in one workout?
Absolutely. A common split is tubes for upper body handle movements like presses, rows and curls, and loops for pull-ups, squats, hip work and anything heavy. Stacking the two types on the same anchor is not recommended though: they reach their rated tension at different stretches, so the combined number stops meaning much.
