Ideal Weight Calculator

There is no single ideal weight, which is why this shows you four of them. The healthy range at the top is the one built on evidence rather than on a formula from the 1970s.

The method

One evidence-based range, four historical formulas.

The healthy weight range is the span of weights that puts your BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 at your height. It is a range on purpose, and it is wide: at 5'10" it covers roughly 40 pounds.

Below it sit four clinical formulas. Hamwi (1964) came from insulin dosing, Devine (1974) from drug dosing, and Robinson (1983) and Miller (1983) were later re-fits of the same idea. All four are linear in inches above five feet, which is also why none of them work below five feet. This calculator withholds them at short heights instead of printing the negative slope they imply.

None of the four account for build, and none of them know whether your weight is muscle. If you are training with resistance regularly, expect to sit above the formulas and be perfectly healthy doing it.

Numbers are the easy part.

Rubber Bands turns a goal into a schedule you can actually keep, built around the resistance bands you already own.
